University of Oregon

The University of Oregon began in1872 without any substantial funding, but because the city of Eugene, Oregon,supported the start of a new higher education institution, they raised the fundsby hosting strawberry festivals, church socials, and produce sales. Today it isranked as one of the most sustainable universities in the nation and classifiedas a very high research activity university, one of only two in the PacificNorthwest. With over 20,000 undergraduates and eight schools and colleges, UOis considered to be the flagship university for the University of OregonSystem. They are part of the Pacific 12 Conference in NCAA Division I athleticsand claim the Disney character, Donald Duck, as their mascot, representing theFighting Ducks.
