The University of Illinois atChicago formed in 1982 when its previous campuses were merged into one. UIC is a public research facility with a renowned faculty.Eighty-three percent of their full-time faculty has a PhD, and the ratio offaculty to students is as low as one faculty member to every 11 students. Theycompete in NCAA Division I athletics, and the school's mascot, the Flames,comes from the Great Chicago Fire, which started close to the campus.
