Florida Atlantic University

Florida Atlantic University is located in Boca Raton,Florida, and has seven satellite campuses throughout the surrounding region ofEastern Florida. The campus was built on a WWII airfield which contained fourrunways, which are still visible today and are used for parking. University researchspecializes in biomedical, biotechnology and ocean energy, and even includes a6,000 gallon shark tank for aquatic research. NASA also has a center on campus.The campus was designated as a burrowing owl sanctuary in 1971, and the owlimprint can be seen on almost all of the university's sports traditions andschool spirit organizations. They participate in NCAA Division I athletics inthe Sun Belt Conference, and the official spirit group is the \"prOWLers.\" Theuniversity is also unique for having its own student run music record label,Hoot/Wisdom Recordings.
