Vance Air Force Base
Vance AFB beganin 1941 as a Basic Flying School that trained aviation cadets to become pilotsand officers in the Air Force. It became a base in 1942 but was deactivated in1945 and given over to the Army Corps of Engineers. In 1948, it was reactivatedfor the Cold War and received the name was changed to Vance AFB. In 1963, thefacility transitioned to primarily undergraduate pilot training. Since 1941,the total number of pilot wings awarded to military aviators at VanceAFB is 32,307. It is the secondbusiest RAPCON facility and boasts the most traffic per hour. The host unit isthe 71st Flying Training Wing, and their mission is to trainworld-class pilots for the US Air Force, Navy, and Marine Corps.
