Naval Air Station Joint Reserves Bases New Orleans
The NavalAir Station Joint Reserves Base in New Orleans is the prominent installationfor the Southern Region in the US Navy and the first in the US to function as aJoint Air Reserve Training Center. It began as a primary flight trainingfacility in 1942 and has since then moved facilities and continued to grow. Theprevious facility is the present day location for the University of NewOrleans. The base is home to Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans, NavyOperational Support Center and a Marine Corps Reserve unit, as well as otherArmy and Navy installations such as the 159th Fighter Wing. Thedifferent bases all provide training for active-duty and reserve installationsas well as operational and logistic support. The base has round the clockoperation because of their home unit's NORAD requirements and their Coast GuardAir Station missions.
