Fort Belvoir
Fort Belvoirwas originally named Camp A.A. Humphreys for the Chief Engineer of the Armyduring the Civil War, but underwent a name change in the 1930s to Fort Belvoirbecause of its location on the Belvoir plantation. Initially, it was the home ofthe army engineer school and engineer research and development laboratory. Now,it serves as the headquarters for the defense logistics agency and multipleother Department of Defense agencies as well as the US Army Intelligence andSecurity Command, INSCOM, and the Army Cyber Command, ARCYBER. The populationof Fort Belvoir is approximately 7,100 military and civilian personnel and is considereda census-designated place in Fairfax County, just a few miles from I-95.
