Salt Lake City, UT RV and Boat Storage

It’s really hard to keep your hands off of your boat or RV when you live in a place that’s as beautiful as Salt Lake City.  However, you obviously can’t be on the waters or in the woods at all times.  When you’re home and not using your vehicles, it’s best to keep them in a storage unit so that you can keep them safe, clean, and ready to use when it’s time for that annual family trip that you look forward to all year.  If you’re new to self storage and need some advice, here are some tips to point you in the right direction.

Security in Salt Lake City

One of the most important things to consider when finding a storage facility in Salt Lake City is safety.  Salt Lake City is only safer than one percent of cities in the U.S., and has about 17,032 annual property crimes.  You don’t want to risk something as precious, and expensive, as your boat or RV.  There are 77 storage facilities in Salt Lake City and they all have taken multiple security measures to ensure the safety of your belongings.  Some things to look for when looking for a secure facility are:  24-hour camera surveillance, electronic coded gate systems, a well lit facility, on site managers, and possibly even having alarm systems on individual units.  Some facilities offer all of these levels of security and more, and some offer just a few.  Depending on your particular area in the city, you should look around to see how intense you have to get with securing your RV or boat and find a facility based on that.

What to Store in Your Unit

One of Salt Lake City’s beautiful RV parks is the Pony Express RV Resort.  This resort is open year round so you can enjoy all of the city’s seasons, and it has tons of nearby activities.  During your getaway, you can also take out some time to go skiing, snowboarding, bicycling, or rock climbing.  All of these activities require extra gear that can be difficult to pack and carry around every time you want to go on vacation.  To make sure that lugging your belongings back and forth doesn’t suck the fun out of your trip, consider storing your things at a storage facility near the resort. Storage City is 2.1 miles away from the RV resort and specializes in RV, boat, and commercial storage.  They have weekly specials available, so be sure to ask about those before you head over.  You can also store your RV, boat, and other belongings at Pioneer Self Storage, which is 3.6 miles away from the resort and offers multiple security measures as well as military and veteran discounts.  It’s definitely easier to store your vehicles closer to where you’ll actually be using them rather than keeping them in the city where they are of no use.

Flexibility:  Leases and Timings

Flexibility is another huge thing to consider when finding a storage facility.  Salt Lake City is known to have four distinct seasons, and you can enjoy each and every one of them with your RV.  It all actually comes down to personal preference—you may be the type that hibernates during the winter and wouldn’t dream of leaving the comfort of your home for an RV adventure in the snowy woods, or you may dislike getting a summer tan and prefer to be in your RV during the winter.  If what we just said describes you, you’ll want to have a flexible lease for your storage unit so that you’re not paying for year-round storage.  A lot of storage facilities offer month-to-month leases because they understand the seasonality of things like boats and RVs, and they want you to only pay for a service that you’re actually using.

You should also opt for a storage facility that allows for 24-hour access to your unit.  Vacations don’t always go as planned, and you don’t want to be on a strict schedule when the point of a vacation is to get away from the daily routine, so you may want to start off or end your vacation at an odd time.  A lot of storage facilities allow tenants to have 24-hour access to their units, but check the facility you’re looking into using just in case.
